Psychologist in Burleigh Heads

Walk & Talk at Burleigh Heads, plus couples and individual therapy

Walk & Talk at Burleigh Heads

Burleigh Heads is one of the places our founding psychologist, Mirinda Smith, runs Walk & Talk sessions. Our consulting room is at The Lavarack Rooms in Nobby Beach, about 5 km north along the Gold Coast Highway, and telehealth is available too.

We work with individuals, teens and couples on anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, perinatal concerns and relationship difficulties.

  • Mirinda Smith, Founder and Psychologist: $255 per walk, with a $124.30 Medicare rebate if you have a GP plan. Works with anxiety, ADHD, depression, trauma, postpartum concerns and couples, using ACT, CBT, DBT, Gottman Level 1 and a psychodynamic lens.

  • Natalie Luxford and Maddison Weinert, Provisional Psychologists: $140 per session by telehealth, with no referral needed and no Medicare rebate. Natalie works with anxiety, depression, stress, relationships and life transitions; Maddison with ADHD, anxiety, identity and women's mental health.

Choose Mirinda if you want to walk, want a Medicare rebate, your concerns involve trauma or ADHD, or you want the option of couples work later.

Choose a provisional psychologist if you have not got a GP plan, want to start without a GP visit, or want to keep costs lower over a longer run of sessions. These sessions are by telehealth.

Walks follow the boulevard or established pathways, with benches and facilities within reach. Your first session is by telehealth, where you agree on a meeting point and cover confidentiality, wet weather and emergency plans.

Sometimes the most powerful insights come when you're in motion. Walking outdoors supports emotional regulation, reduces stress and allows conversations to flow more naturally. Side-by-side sessions can feel less confronting and more comfortable than sitting face to face.

Couples therapy for Burleigh Heads couples

Mirinda sees couples by telehealth or in person at The Lavarack Rooms. Her couples work draws on Gottman Level 1 training, which focuses on how couples handle conflict, repair after arguments, and keep friendship and trust going under pressure.

Couples often come to us when:

  • the same argument keeps coming back with no resolution

  • a baby, a move or a job change has shifted how the relationship works

  • one partner has pulled away and the other is chasing

  • trust has been damaged and you both want to work out whether and how to rebuild it

Couples sessions are $280. Medicare does not cover couples therapy, so no GP referral is needed. If one partner also wants individual sessions, those can be rebated with a Mental Health Treatment Plan.

Other ways to see us

  • In person at Nobby Beach. Fridays, 9am to 4pm, with Mirinda. $250 ($151.03 after rebate).

  • Telehealth. $240 with Mirinda ($141.03 after rebate) or $140 with a provisional psychologist.

  • Dog-assisted Walk & Talk. Counsellor Isabelle and her therapy dog Reuben, a golden retriever, walk at Palm Beach, Currumbin and Tugun, just south of Burleigh. Isabelle is currently on maternity leave.

Medicare in short

To claim a rebate on individual psychology sessions with Mirinda, you need a Mental Health Treatment Plan. Since 1 November 2025, it must come from a GP at the practice where you are registered with MyMedicare, or your usual GP. Medicare covers up to 10 individual sessions per calendar year. For Walk & Talk, ask your GP to note that sessions outside a consulting room would benefit you, and you can name Mirinda on the referral.
