Psychologist in Broadbeach
Walk & Talk therapy in Broadbeach, with Medicare rebates
How Walk & Talk works in Broadbeach
Broadbeach is one of the places our founding psychologist, Mirinda Smith, runs Walk & Talk sessions, so you can have therapy on the foreshore paths you already know rather than in a waiting room. If you prefer a room, Satya Psychology's consulting space is at The Lavarack Rooms in Nobby Beach, about 4 km south.
We work with anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, perinatal concerns and relationships, for adults, teens and couples. Medicare rebates apply to eligible psychology sessions, including Walk & Talk.
Walk & Talk is a regular psychology session held side by side, on foot. It is not a fitness session and you do not need to be fit; the pace is a comfortable walk, and we stop whenever you like.
Your first session is by telehealth. Before we meet outside, we cover how sessions are structured, how confidentiality works in a public place, what we do if it rains, what happens in an emergency, and what you consent to. We also choose a meeting point.
Routes stay on the boulevard or established pathways. That keeps the ground even and puts benches, shade and toilets within reach. In Broadbeach that usually means the foreshore paths; Mirinda also walks at Nobby's, Burleigh Heads and Southport if one of those suits your week better.
Why people choose it. Some people find it easier to talk when they are not facing someone across a room. Moving can take the edge off anxiety, and the session feels less clinical. For others, a room feels safer, and that is fine too.
What Walk & Talk is not right for. If you are acutely unwell, need frequent breaks in privacy, or would be distressed by being seen in public, we will suggest in-person or telehealth instead. We talk this through in the first session.
Medicare for Walk & Talk
Walk & Talk sessions with Mirinda are $255, with a Medicare rebate of $124.30, leaving $130.70 out of pocket. To claim, your GP needs to note on your Mental Health Treatment Plan that psychology outside a traditional consulting room would benefit you. Since 1 November 2025, the plan must come from a GP at your MyMedicare-registered practice or your usual GP.
Provisional psychologist sessions are $140 by telehealth, with no referral and no rebate.
Ways to see us from Broadbeach
Walk & Talk in Broadbeach, video sessions from home or work, or a Friday session in our Nobby Beach room.
Some of the best breakthroughs happen while you’re moving. We walk together along the Broadbeach foreshore or nearby parkland, using movement and fresh air to ease you into deeper, more natural conversation. Many clients find walking side-by-side far less confronting than sitting face-to-face in a room.

We agree on a wet-weather plan in your first session. Usually that means moving the session to telehealth at the same time.
-
Whatever you would wear for a relaxed walk. Comfortable shoes, a hat and water help in summer.
-
We agree in advance on how to handle it. Most clients choose to pause the conversation, say hello and carry on.
